Centerstone Launches Innovative Crisis Chat Services in Middle Tennessee
Centerstone’s Crisis Call Center receives new accreditation and announces it is the first organization in Tennessee to offer Crisis Chat
Nashville, Tenn.—Centerstone, the nation’s largest not-for-profit provider of community-based mental health and addiction services, today announced that beginning the week of February 13, its Crisis Call Center will offer crisis chat services. Crisis Chat is a collaborative service provided by crisis centers across the United States, and Centerstone is the first organization to offer it in Tennessee.
Crisis Chat provides a new way for Middle Tennesseans to access and connect with mental health experts via the web, in real time. Offering chat services will allow Centerstone’s crisis management experts to serve even more people each year through a Web link on Centerstone’s website or Crisis Chat’s website.
“We’re thrilled to be the first to launch this new service in Tennessee,” said Dr. Bob Vero, CEO of Centerstone. “Crisis Chat will provide us with yet another avenue through which to reach people in need – particularly teens and young adults who are so accustomed to receiving their information digitally. While some individuals may hesitate to pick up the phone or walk into a clinic, Crisis Chat provides an outlet that may be more comfortable and accessible for some.”
Located in Nashville, Centerstone’s Crisis Call Center was established in 1992 and receives a total of more than 35,000 phone calls annually. Crisis Chat will be an expansion of the call center’s existing services, which includes providing information, initial crisis assessment, referrals and de-escalation to callers throughout Middle Tennessee who are going through an acute psychiatric crisis.
Crisis Chat is currently in development throughout the United States and Centerstone will be one of many agencies throughout the country offering this service. Right now, it is available from 11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. CT, seven days a week. Eventually it will be available 24 hours a day. Crisis Chat is managed by CONTACT USA, a national organization and network of crisis intervention centers across the nation. CONTACT USA provides written standards and accreditation to crisis centers throughout the United States, including Centerstone.
Centerstone’s recent CONTACT USA accreditation recognizes that the staff and leadership at the Crisis Call Center are maintaining the highest standards of delivery and service. All crisis centers participating in Crisis Chat are required to maintain accreditation by a nationally recognized crisis call center accrediting body such as CONTACT USA or the American Association of Suicidology. Centerstone has both accreditations, as well as one from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) International. Crisis Centers are also required to be accredited by CONTACT USA in online emotional support.
