This study was part of the dissertation research of a Vanderbilt Peabody student. It looked at the expectations, skills and amount of knowledge about community resources that students with emotional and behavioral disorders retained.
The study revealed that the students had unrealistic expectations of future employment and salaries. While students could identify skills that were important in the work place, they did not feel that those skills were important to learn in the classroom. Students communicated that they least wanted to learn skills that they were most lacking. Students also seemed unaware of community resources to help with employment and housing – only retaining information learned through word of mouth from family and friends.
