Kayla Wheatley, Child Access/Acute Intake Counselor

My name is Kayla Wheatley and I work as an Intake Counselor for Acute and Child Access at Centerstone Kentucky. I answer phone calls to set children up for first-time appointments with Centerstone. I also answer the children’s crisis hotline to provide crisis interventions over the phone. I have been with Centerstone for about eight months now and my supervisors and coworkers are very encouraging and supportive. I love working with children and hope to do so when I am finished with school. I am in graduate school for Social Work at Spalding University.

I have been working in the mental health field for about four years now and each year I learn something new. My undergraduate degree is in Psychology, so I really enjoy working in mental health. I am a strong advocate for mental health and hope to one day help create a positive image of the way mental health is portrayed in our nation. I appreciate the work Centerstone does for our community and I hope that one day I can join the Centerstone team as a therapist to provide therapy for the children in our neighborhoods.

Outside of work, I enjoy getting together with my friends and family, practicing yoga, and routing for my team, the Kentucky Wildcats (even during football season)! During the summer, you will most likely catch me hanging on the dock or on the boat at Nolin Lake. I love the outdoors and spend as much time as I can outside.

“I received a call from The Brook this morning wanting to let me know about the great customer service that our very own Kayla Wheatley provided. The person calling noted that she had about five discharges that she needed to schedule, and that even though there was a lot to go through, Kayla handled it beautifully. Nice work Kayla and nice work Intake team!”
