‘Resilience’ screening and panel discussion

Everyone is welcome to attend the screening of “Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope” and a panel discussion on August 28 from 6-9 p.m. at The Varsity Center, 418 South Illinois Avenue, Carbondale. There is no charge to attend.

The event is hosted by Centerstone’s Building Compassionate Communities, Resilient Southern Illinois, and Prevent Child Abuse Illinois.

“If you would like to learn more about the science behind adverse childhood experiences, please join us for this event,” said Dr. David Mills, Centerstone’s Building Compassionate Communities Coordinator. “You will learn how exposure to trauma affects a child’s brain and how toxic stress increases the risk of a lifetime of negative health outcomes.”

Following the screening, the following experts will participate in a panel discussion:

  • The Honorable Amanda Byassee Gott, First Judicial Circuit of Illinois At Large Circuit Judge
  • Brooke Lam, Carbondale Police Department youth detective
