Centerstone is hosting a breakfast with Dr. Jennifer Lockman as she presents “Preventing Suicide Deaths among College Students: A “Meaning Making” Experience.

After this presentation, audience members will be able to:

  • Describe three research-informed reasons why college students are at risk for suicide
  • Use an evidence-based approach to prevent college students’ suicide deaths, focusing on meaningful living

Dr. Lockman currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Centerstone’s Research Institute.  She also holds an adjunct faculty appointment at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Lockman’s program of research focuses on developing and testing novel interventions to further suicide prevention specialty care in Crisis Services and Crisis Residential Units, and Crisis Transition and Outpatient clinics. In fact, much of Dr. Lockman’s research focuses on how treatments for suicidal persons can help them make meaning of their life experiences, and grow and thrive by re-building a life they truly want to live. Dr. Lockman has personally served as the lead evaluator for three SAMHSA (as we call it) or Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration grants focused on suicide prevention in youth and five SAMHSA grants focused on suicide prevention among adults and in Zero Suicide health systems (Centerstone is a Zero Suicide health system).  She has participated multiple national and international panels and workgroups including, the International Zero Suicide Leadership Exchange and the  Zero Suicide Institute Data Panel. She holds a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Purdue University and two master’s degrees in Psychology and Professional Counseling from Lipscomb University. She served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for both the VISN 2 Center of Excellence for Suicide Prevention in Canandaigua, New York, and the Center for the Study and Prevention of Suicide at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York.
