Seasoned Director of Clinical Research makes move to oversee research and growth initiatives throughout Indiana
Bloomington, Ind. – Centerstone Research Institute (CRI), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving behavioral healthcare through research and information technology, today announced that its Director of Clinical Research, David Ayer, Ph.D., has relocated from Nashville, Tenn., to CRI’s offices in Bloomington, Ind., to head up the organization’s operations there.
In this role, Ayer will be responsible for defining and leading the strategy, execution and management of all clinical studies on mental health and substance abuse disorders conducted by CRI’s Clinical Research Division. He also will continue to advance research on analytics and artificial intelligence as it applies to behavioral healthcare.

Ayer joined Centerstone in 2003 as administrator and research coordinator for the organization’s Institutional Review Board, for which he currently serves as Chairman. He was named Director of Clinical Research in 2007. In addition to his expanded role overseeing CRI operations in Indiana, he is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and an Assistant Professor at Indiana University’s Department of Psychology and Brain Sciences. Prior to joining Centerstone, Ayer held positions at the Tennessee Department of Corrections and Vanderbilt University.
Ayer received a Ph.D. in Behavior Analysis from Western Michigan University. Additionally, he holds a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University.
