Centerstone’s David Guth Honored with National Award for Visionary Leadership

Nashville, Tenn.—David Guth, CEO of Centerstone of America, has been recognized by the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare as the winner of the 2010 Award of Excellence in Visionary Leadership. Mr. Guth is being acknowledged for his exemplary leadership and commitment to a high quality behavioral healthcare system that addresses the needs of consumers and their families.

For more than 30 years, David Guth has driven efforts to improve the behavioral healthcare industry and has led a constant search for new and better ways to treat mental illness and addiction disorders. He has worked to leverage the best science and most advanced information technology to ensure that people struggling with these disorders have quick access to the most effective treatments and programs possible.

Under Mr. Guth’s leadership, Centerstone provides a comprehensive continuum of high-quality, state-of-the art behavioral healthcare throughout Tennessee and Indiana, serving more than 75,000 people of all ages each year. Centerstone’s size, reach and expertise enables the organization to better serve its clients at home as well as have a stronger national voice in shaping the understanding of mental illness within the medical community and throughout society. Mr. Guth is a strong advocate for mental health parity and has been an active participant in current healthcare reform dialogue, penning several key opinion editorials in local and regional newspapers.

“David Guth is an outstanding leader in the healthcare industry. His creation of an organization that employs state of the science business practices, delivers state of the science services and that researches emerging treatments has revolutionized the behavioral healthcare industry,” said Linda Rosenberg, MSW, President and CEO of the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare. “David has a vision of a better world for people who struggle with mental illnesses and addictions and his leadership is creating that world.”

At Centerstone, David Guth has created a unique healthcare organization with a mission to ensure that every person living with a mental health or addiction disorder reaches full recovery. In 2008, Mr. Guth led the merger of Tennessee-based Centerstone with two other behavioral health organizations that rendered Centerstone the largest provider of community-based behavioral healthcare in the United States. The affiliation created the parent company, Centerstone of America, of which Mr. Guth is CEO, to serve as the umbrella for four companies: Centerstone of Tennessee, Inc., Centerstone of Indiana, Inc., Centerstone Research Institute and Advantage Behavioral Health. David has overseen the integration of these companies and their combined 1,800 employees.

“David Guth is the heart, soul and backbone of Centerstone and his visionary leadership has led this organization to become the largest non-profit provider of community-based behavioral healthcare in the nation,” said Bob Vero, CEO of Centerstone of Tennessee. “However, David is not concerned with growth just for growth’s sake. He is singularly focused on fulfilling Centerstone’s mission and making sure that every person with a behavioral health disorder receives the treatment and support they need.”

The National Council recognizes leaders in the mental health and addictions treatment field, like David Guth, who have a superior, sustained commitment to quality, behavioral healthcare and a career marked by significant contributions to the behavioral healthcare industry and the
consumers it serves.

The Award of Excellence will be formally presented to David Guth on March 16, 2010 during the Fabulous Forty Gala at the 40th annual conference of the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare in Orlando, Florida.
