October 2, 2017

Dr. Kathryn Mathes, Vice President of Research & Evaluation today announced that the position of Director of Clinical & Translational Research for Centerstone Research Institute has been filled.

Dr. Jennifer Lockman came to Centerstone Research Institute in 2007 directly from her Lipscomb University undergraduate psychology program. Between 2007 and 2011, Jennifer advanced to RA II, Evaluation Associate and Program Evaluator, consistently taking on greater responsibilities. She demonstrated significant aptitude in designing and implementing rigorous evaluations. She also demonstrated abilities to translate knowledge into actionable tools, useful for clinical and community practice.

For example, she led the development of an interactive web-based tool-kit to assist communities in implementing suicide prevention programs and co-developed the Shield of Care — a groundbreaking suicide prevention curriculum for juvenile justice facilities. Jennifer returned to school in 2011 to pursue her Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She completed a competitive internship in psychology at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC). She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the VISN 2 Center of Excellence for Suicide Prevention (COE) at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center.

her research focuses on developing and testing theory-informed psychotherapies for suicide and training the clinical workforce in suicide prevention. She also studies Zero Suicide approaches to care. She is committed to finding new strategies for reducing the 17-year research-to-practice gap, which is a strong fit for the translational science aspect of her new role.

In her new role, Jennifer will work with Dr. Kathryn Mathes and Dr. Rick Shelton in rebuilding and expanding the Clinical Research Department. She will provide strategic leadership for Centerstone’s research agenda helping to position Centerstone as an innovative and competitive leader in the behavioral health care. Jennifer will focus on keeping Centerstone at the forefront of best practice in research, data analytics and impact. She will recruit world-class investigators to conduct impactful research and will work with medical and clinical staff across the State Business Units (SBUs) to identify readiness for implementation of rigorous research protocols. Dr. Lockman will seek NIH and PCORI funding, pursue opportunities to publish and provide oversight of Centerstone’s Internal Research Advisory Board. She will also maintain her PI role on our existing suicide prevention SAMHSA grants.
