Dunn Center and Centerstone to Join Forces

Columbus, Ind. and Richmond, Ind.—Centerstone of Indiana and Dunn Center, recognized leaders in the not-for-profit behavioral healthcare industry, intend to join forces. On Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, Centerstone of Indiana and Dunn Center boards of directors voted unanimously to execute a letter of intent to pursue a merger. Once the transaction is finalized, the combined organization will be known as Centerstone. Centerstone in Nashville, Tenn., Center for Behavioral Health in Bloomington, Ind. and Quinco Behavioral Health Systems in Columbus, Ind. merged in May 2008 to create the largest provider of community behavioral health services in the United States.

“I believe it’s our shared vision and commitment to persons we serve that brought us together,” said Kay Whittington, Dunn Center’s Chief Executive Officer. “We all have something to offer each other and through this partnership we will be able to access the best of our resources to help others reclaim and transform their lives.” Dunn Center has a history of innovation and client advocacy as well as a premier Indiana foster care program. Dunn has also provided leadership in securing grants for supportive housing for mental health consumers and recently completed a successful capital campaign to build a state-of-the-art group home.

“Together, we would provide services to families, consumers, and businesses in a significant number of Indiana’s 92 counties,” said Dr. Robert J. Williams, Chief Executive Officer of Centerstone of Indiana. “We are truly honored to have this opportunity to work with the Dunn Center staff and board members and look forward to extending our support and friendship to our potential new colleagues.”

Currently Centerstone offers services to over 18,000 individuals annually in Indiana. Partnership with Dunn Center will expand Centerstone to an additional 6,000 Indiana residents, making it the largest not-for-profit provider of community-based behavioral healthcare in Indiana. Centerstone’s size and resources allows greater client advocacy and the pursuit of mental health research to fulfill its mission to prevent and cure mental illness and addiction.
