MEDIA ADVISORY: Understanding Addictive Medications

Free event on July 22 will uncover the dangerous side effects of medication abuse and how it affects our communities

WHAT:
Centerstone and the Ivy Tech Community College School of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences are presenting a free, educational Breakfast Learning Series event titled, “Addictive Medications: What Every Clinician Should Know.”

During the three-hour workshop James Gaither, MD, Addictionologist at Valle Vista, will review commonly prescribed and abused medications, their side effects and how they influence patients’ health and behavior. He will also outline general strategies for differentiating between medication abuse and general mental illness, and how to manage and control addictive medications.

The Breakfast Learning Series is designed especially for clinicians and community members who support those recovering from mental illness and addiction. Continuing education credits are available for a $5.00 charge.
