Prevention Program Abstinence Until Marriage Poster Contest Winners Announced

Nashville, Tenn. — Centerstone’s prevention program held its Third Annual Abstinence Until Marriage Poster Contest. Students from local schools were encouraged to submit posters creatively mirroring this year’s theme, “Abstinence…the future is MINE!” From each of the six participating schools, first and second place winners were selected, along with an overall Grand Prize winner. The Grand Prize winning artist will get to see their poster featured on four billboards in the Nashville area.

Judging of the posters took place at Centerstone’s Wallace Academy in Nashville. Over 70 entries were graded on originality and how each reflected the contest theme. The judges for this year’s competition were: Lelan Statom (NewsChannel 5), Cindy Schmidt (Abstinence Educator), Mark Hooper (Cube Graphics), and Jody Folk (Deputy to the First Lady of Tennessee). A blind judging process was employed, so that no artist or school names were known to the judges. Upon completion, scores were tallied, and the winners from each school were determined.

On Tuesday, May 6th, finalists were transported via limousine to Monell’s restaurant for the awards luncheon and unveiling of the grand prize winner.

The 2003 Grand Prize winner poster was created by Brienna Stafford of Two Rivers Middle School. Brienna was also the winner of last year’s competition. Her poster will be featured on local area billboards and a banner, featuring her winning design, will be hung at her school.

Sponsors for this year’s Abstinence Until Marriage Poster Contest are: Lamar, Boise Cascade, Burger King, Nashville Sounds, Bellevue Mall, Monell’s, A to Z Limo and Cube Graphics.
