Centerstone’s 17th annual Life;Story a 5K/10K run/walk will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 7:30 a.m. at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla.
Centerstone’s Life;Story 5K/10K event is held to increase depression awareness and share the message that suicide is preventable. The run/walk is chip timed by Fit2Time and is included in the Lakewood Ranch Running Club Triple Challenge.
The race follows a path over a bridge and through a scenic winding route on the western side of the lake and then finishes with an inspirational Life;Story ceremony, featuring speaker Nik Wallenda and a butterfly release. In addition to food, awards and music, the event provides education on and serves to advocate for mental health treatment in view of the public health crisis facing this country. The event also features “Dr. Mac Kid’s Races” for ages 3-12 and a “Virtual Race” option for participants who cannot attend in Sarasota.
“We are losing more than 40,000 people to suicide every year in the United States. Together, we can stop this epidemic by bringing attention to it and letting everyone know that suicide is preventable,” explained Melissa Larkin-Skinner, Regional CEO of Centerstone. “We can all help by participating in awareness and prevention events like Life;Story.”
