Suicide Intervention Workshop Trains Community Members to Help At-Risk Individuals

Centerstone licensed therapists will lead the two-day Applied Suicide Intervention Skill Training workshop beginning November 9th

On Wednesday and Thursday, November 9 and 10, Centerstone will host an intensive and interactive Applied Suicide Intervention Skill Training (ASIST) workshop for local caregivers and community members who hold a position of trust, such as teachers, coaches, parents, volunteers, health professionals and law enforcement officers. The course, lead by Centerstone licensed therapists and certified ASIST trainers Cindy Houston and Diana Hastings, will equip participants with the knowledge, skills and tools they need to recognize suicide risk and invitations for help, reach out and offer support, and apply a suicide intervention model.

Each year, more than 14 million people experience suicidal thoughts and almost all of them will share their distress and intent with somebody. The ASIST training workshop focuses on suicide first aid and teaches individuals how to help those at-risk stay safe, seek further assistance and connect with local community resources.

The workshop costs $100 and is open to the public. Interested participants over the age of 16 can register by calling 812-337-2350, and registration includes all materials and training. Additionally, 12 category one CEUs will be available with an application.
