Medication Assisted Treatment: Who is it For?

Medication Assisted Treatment or MAT is a whole-person treatment option designed to help people aged 18 and up who have a severe addiction to alcohol or opioids. MAT combines traditional mental health therapy with special medication to assist someone in their recovery with the goal of reduced cravings and negative withdrawal symptoms, and improved physical wellbeing. This webinar will help explain MAT and who it best serves.

Objectives of the training include:

  • To dispel myths associated with MAT.
  • To identify signs of substance use and overdose.
  • To assist in identifying appropriate referrals for MAT.
  • To identify how MAT services benefits clients and the community.
  • Recognize the importance of an individualized and comprehensive approach to substance use treatment
  • Develop strategies for referral to appropriate levels of care based on the assessed needs of clients.

The presenter of the training is Alyssa Cline, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Cline is currently the Clinical Coordinator for Centerstone’s Medication Assisted Treatment Grant and their Opioid Remediation Grant with Madison County Jail. Cline spent seven years working in foster care before receiving her Master’s in Social Work from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2019.
