Centerstone offering free counseling to children of first responders in Tennessee
Centerstone, a nonprofit health system specializing in mental health and substance use disorder treatments, has partnered with the First Responders Children’s Foundation to provide free, confidential mental health counseling to the children of active or retired first responders in Tennessee. This initiative aims to support the mental well-being of the children and young adults up to age 25, who may be impacted by the unique stressors faced by their first responder family members.
First responders—including police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, paramedics, and 911 dispatchers—often encounter dangerous and traumatic situations. These experiences can have a profound effect not only on their lives but also on the emotional health of their families. Centerstone recognizes the importance of addressing these challenges and is committed to helping the children of first responders access the mental health care they need.
Through this program, eligible participants can receive up to 10 free and confidential therapy sessions, either in-person or virtually, ensuring that help is accessible across Tennessee. Children of active or retired first responders, as well as first responders themselves up to age 25, qualify for this support.
“First responders are the backbone of our community, and their families often carry the burden of their heroic efforts,” said Ben Middleton, regional chief executive officer at Centerstone. “We’re proud to offer these crucial mental health services, ensuring that the children of first responders have access to care that can truly make a difference in their lives.”
This partnership with the First Responders Children’s Foundation highlights Centerstone’s ongoing mission to provide compassionate and evidence-based mental health services across the state and beyond. Centerstone’s programs, available in Florida, Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, and Tennessee, are designed to meet the diverse mental health needs of individuals, families, and communities.
