Centerstone responds to SAMHSA grant funding restoration

Jan. 14 will be a difficult day to forget for hundreds of mental health care providers doing grant-funded work across the Centerstone system.

In the overnight hours of Jan. 13, Centerstone received notification that 28 of its grants from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) were cut, effective immediately. Less than 24 hours later, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has reversed course, restoring approximately $14.3 million in funding to Centerstone programs in seven states (Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, Florida and North Carolina). Centerstone team members received official word of the reversal from SAMHSA on the morning of Jan. 15.

Centerstone will use the SAMHSA grant funding to provide life-changing treatment and care to thousands of patients in the months and years ahead.

“We’re excited to learn that these programs will be able to continue and we will continue our work to provide care, to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health treatment, to help families and to strengthen the communities we serve,” Centerstone CEO David C. Guth, Jr., said. “We appreciate everyone in the mental health space who spoke up and advocated on our behalf.”
