Local Sarasota donor contributes $100,000 to support Comprehensive Treatment Court program

After learning about a public funding shortfall for the Sarasota County Comprehensive Treatment Court (CTC) this year, developer and attorney Hugh Culverhouse Jr. contributed $100,000 to Centerstone to ensure the 2023 program is fully funded. CTC is a mental health diversion program implemented in the local courts that helps move individuals who commit non-violent offenses suffering from mental health disorders out of the jails and into treatment programs.

The contribution follows recent donations from Culverhouse and the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. Earlier this year, each contributed $50,000 to the program. Since CTC’s inception, funding has been secured from grants awarded by Florida’s Department of Children and Families, Sarasota County, the City of Sarasota, local foundations as well as the private sector.

“We are deeply grateful for Mr. Culverhouse’s generous donation. It would ensure that the program is fully funded this year, continuing the successes achieved over the last six years of moving individuals with mental health issues out of jail and onto a path to receive the much-needed help and support,” said Melissa Larkin-Skinner, regional chief executive officer for Centerstone.
