Dr. Janet Taylor is a Community Psychiatrist at Centerstone in Sarasota, Florida. She is on the frontline battling the emotional and economic impact of mental illness. She holds a MD from the University of Louisville, completed her psychiatric residency at New York Medical College and obtained an MPH from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. She had a column in Family Circle Magazine, “Ask Dr. Janet.” Dr. Taylor is also frequently featured on ABC’s “Good Morning America” and NBC’s “The Today Show,” as well as CNN. She is a former host of the Discovery Health/OWN series, “Facing Trauma” and was the Guest Care Director for “The Jeremy Kyle Show.” Dr. Taylor is a frequent speaker on the impact of racial trauma and racism, anti-racism and conscious allyship. She is experienced in diversity and inclusion work including cultural competence and more importantly, cultural humility. She is an expert in implicit bias through the lens of neuroscience and behavior. She’s an expert in self care and post traumatic growth and has created a “Reset Program” to address both. She both counsels’ individuals and works more broadly to improve diversity awareness, diversity management capabilities and individual coping skills to mitigate bias and improve communication skills, self-awareness and team functioning.
