Love is in the Air
It’s a month of love.
We are certainly reminded of the importance of our relationships throughout the month of February and the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Centerstone wanted to spread that love by hosting two unique couples’ events – both with heartwarming responses.
“We love holding art classes in our community room and are no strangers to providing online marriage workshops” Meghan Williams the clinic’s outreach director began, “but it’s not often we hold a couples only creative class or a Saturday couples workshop. In honor of Valentine’s Day we decided to do both.”
Community partner, Arts for Hearts, kicked off the sweetheart offerings with an artist led painting class.
“It was amazing. Couples came in to the community room eager to dive into the project and the fun never stopped,” Williams recalled. “It was simply wonderful to watch as each twosome added their own personal touches to once blank canvases.”
Just a few short days later, the clinic hosted its first Saturday “Making Marriage Work” seminar. The course was led by LMFT husband and wife duo, Darin and Hannah Nielsen, and covered “The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work”, by John Gottman, Ph.D.
“We’ve been wanting to hold a weekend relationship workshop for our military couples for some time,” Williams explained. “Thanks to the Nielsens, we were able to welcome in couples whose schedules may prevent them from attending weekly workshop sessions and give them the tools to understand each other better and enjoy a lasting relationship based upon friendship!”
Both couples events were well received by attendees, so much so, Williams believes the classes will likely be back in the future.
