Centerstone appoints Dee King as Chief Governance Officer
Centerstone, a nonprofit health system specializing in mental health and substance use disorder services, has appointed Dee King as Chief Governance Officer. This newly created role underscores Centerstone’s commitment to strengthening governance across its family of 8 boards and more than 80 members, fostering consistent and intentional board experiences that support organizational health and accelerate its mission of delivering care that changes people’s lives.
In this role, King will serve as a bridge between Centerstone’s executive leaders and its boards of directors, ensuring alignment, collaboration, and effective governance across the system. Her leadership will focus on building connection and cohesion across boards, enhancing member education, recognition, and engagement, and reinforcing governance processes that empower leaders and advance the mission.
King most recently served as Chief of Staff at Brightli, where she supported executive priorities, represented the CEO in meetings and community engagements, and served as a key connector between staff, boards, and external stakeholders. Her career also spans treasury management in banking and a decade in the hotel industry specializing in sales and marketing.
“Dee brings a proven record of leadership, collaboration, and relationship-building that will be invaluable as Centerstone continues to strengthen its governance,” said David C. Guth, Jr., CEO of Centerstone. “Her leadership will ensure governance is not just a structure, but a catalyst, aligning our family of boards and executives to advance Centerstone’s mission.”
King is also deeply involved in community leadership, having served on eight nonprofit boards including the United Way of the Ozarks, Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, Community Partnership of the Ozarks, Springfield–Greene County Park Board, and the Springfield Missouri Convention and Visitors Bureau. Passionate about advancing cancer-related causes, she chaired the American Cancer Society’s 2021 Cattle Baron’s Ball of Southwest Missouri. She has been honored with the Springfield Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 award in 2017 and Biz 417’s 10 for the Next 10 in 2020. King holds a Bachelor of Science degree in General Business from Missouri State University.
“I am honored to step into this role,” King said. “By strengthening engagement across our family of boards, investing in member education and recognition, and ensuring alignment among more than 80 dedicated members, we can ensure that governance not only supports but accelerates Centerstone’s mission of delivering care that changes people’s lives. I am deeply grateful for the service and leadership of our board members, whose commitment is essential to our success.”
