My name is Belle Holloway and I work at Developmental Services as a Senior Support Broker (fancy name for case manager) and oversee intakes for the (MPW) Michelle P. Waiver. The MPW is a wonderful program that began in Kentucky in 2008 to provide services for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities through their life span while remaining in their caregivers’ residence or in their own home. One of the best things about the Michelle P. Waiver is that our consumers get to hire caregivers of their choice. I feel like I get the best of 2 worlds: I have my ongoing caseload, most of which I’ve had for over 4 years, so I really get to know our consumers and their families; while at the same time, I also get to start people out on the program or welcome them to Centerstone Kentucky from other regions or agencies. It’s also great to get to coordinate with behavior therapists, Adult Day Programs, and supported employment agencies. I get to see each of our families in their home every month, and it’s really inspiring to watch them grow, change, and accomplish new things throughout the year.
I feel like I’m carrying on a family tradition, as my mother worked at DSD with First Steps for 21 years. I completely understand her love of the ID/DD population now. While I hope to finally make it to graduate school in the near future, my work with such amazing people has led me to pursue occupational therapy in the hopes of working with the same population through Centerstone when I finish.
Outside of work, I’m a cast member of Mad Camp Cabaret, a group that puts on a lip synching show twice a year at PLAY Louisville to raise money for charities and organizations of our choice. I’m also an avid knitter and crocheter, studying Spanish, and slowly learning to play the autoharp.
