Centerstone launches new Community Day Bocce Tournament

Centerstone, a national leader in behavioral health care, will add a third day to its annual bocce tournament in the Spring, and teams sign-ups are open.

The Centerstone Community Day Bocce Tournament will be held on Saturday, April 23 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Murphysboro Bocce Courts. Teams of four can sign up at https://bit.ly/2022CommunityDay. Registration is $120 for a team of four and includes lunch by Baldy’s BBQ Food Truck. Everyone is welcome to sign up for the Community Day Bocce Tournament.

“We invite friends and supporters from the community to join us in a day of bocce fun in a community day tournament,” said Centerstone Director of Advancement Erin Camfield. “This fundraising event supports our clients, neighbors, friends and family members and their mental health needs.”

This is the 20th year for Centerstone’s bocce events. The events raise money and awareness for mental health and substance use disorder treatment.

The Centerstone bocce events, presented by SIU Credit Union, start off on April 21 with Centerstone vocational and residential clients enjoying a day of play and a barbeque at the Herrin Bocce Courts. All courts are shielded from the sun by a pavilion, sponsored by Diederich and Willis Towers Watson.

“This tournament showcases some of what Centerstone does best, which is building relationships: relationships among clients having fun together, between clients and staff, and with Centerstone and our community partners,” said John G. Markley, Regional CEO of Centerstone.

Funds raised through this event will be used to enhance treatment opportunities, remove barriers and instill hope in the children, adults and families served by Centerstone.

“A long-time group home resident had three goals: live on his own, marry his girlfriend, and work in the community. In 2009, he moved into his own apartment and has lived there successfully. He also married his girlfriend. And with support from his job coach, he is applying for employment in our community. These are the changes we make in the lives’ of our clients. This would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors,” Markley said.
