Welcome Governor Lee

The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Centerstone was honored to welcome Tennessee Governor Bill Lee to the clinic in December.

The Governor has made it a priority to make to the volunteer state the best state to call home for service men and women, veterans and their families. His visit to the Cohen Clinic at Centerstone further demonstrated his commitment to this most deserving population.

“We are so grateful that the Governor was able to make time to tour our space and hear from team members, supporters, and other dignitaries regarding the whole-person behavioral health care and services that we provide to our military families,” Clinic Director, Julie Adams shared.

During the Governor’s visit, Adams explained the clinic’s therapeutic approaches to serving our nation’s heroes as well as its unique free offerings such as parenting and couples workshops, horticultural therapy, family movie nights, art classes and yoga all beyond traditional therapy and the dedication to break down the stigma of seeking out mental health care.

“We recognize and understand the unique challenges our military families face,” Adams explained, “and we are here to support them through those challenges in a number of ways. Not only do we offer accessible, compassionate mental health care for individuals, couples and families at low-to-no cost, but we also provide a variety of enrichment opportunities that encourage connections and build relationships.”

Those enrichment offerings include free online couples workshops, parenting classes, support groups as well as in-person events such as gardening classes, art classes, family movie nights and more.

“We are here to ensure our military families are supported and never feel alone,” Adams said. “From making that first call for help, to intake, engaging in services, to community room classes, to case management support, we are dedicated to providing care that changes people’s lives. Everyone here embraces that mission and we were honored that we able to share our passion with the Governor.”

A number of Tennessee dignitaries, advocates and clinic Advisory Council members were on hand for the Governor’s tour each offering their thoughts on the clinic’s impact and hopes for its continued success.
