Centerstone, a nonprofit health system specializing in mental health and substance use disorder services, is honored to receive a $250,000 gift from the Gary Sinise Foundation. The donation was made to support Centerstone’s four Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinics and will help continue the vision that both organizations share to create a broader reach for mental health services for active duty military personnel, veterans, and military families.
The challenges of military service members are unique, including mental health concerns that often go untreated. Since 2002, more than 10,000 current and former service members have been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and reports indicate that half of those who experience combat trauma do not receive sufficient care. Because so many do not seek or receive the care they need, Centerstone remains committed to life-saving care for these affected individuals and their families.
While mental health issues for the military-related community can be similar to those for the civilian population, certain issues are more prevalent such as post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, and suicide. Unfortunately, not every military family has the financial resources for the help they may need. With this gift, Centerstone will provide mental health support to military-connected individuals – services provided include individual, couples, family and group counseling as well as holistic health workshops and community building events. The services will be provided at one of the four Cohen Clinics at Centerstone located in Clarksville, Tennessee; Jacksonville, Florida; Fayetteville, North Carolina; Hinesville, Georgia, and also across each state via telehealth, face-to-face video therapy which reduces barriers to treatment.
These services will be delivered by professional mental health providers who are specially trained in military culture, who can readily address common issues faced by our military community and increase access to care for service members and their families.
“We are honored, not only by this generous gift, but by the opportunity to serve our country’s heroes,” said Ben Middleton, Centerstone’s regional chief executive officer. “We are committed to our life-saving work alongside Cohen Veterans Network delivering on our high-quality care supported by the Gary Sinise Foundation.”
Centerstone’s Vice President of Specialty Clinics, Lisa Eggebeen adds, “Many times there can be significant gaps in care, but when partners come together and have the same vision for services, it reduces those gaps and gets services to our military connected community — individuals and families.”
Together, Cohen Veterans Network (CVN) and Centerstone are on a mission to provide veterans, service members, and military families with compassionate and effective care to help them through the challenges of military life, transition to civilian life, and beyond. In 2017, the first Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Centerstone opened in Clarksville, Tennessee. Three years later in 2020, the mission expanded to include clinics in Jacksonville, Florida, and Fayetteville, North Carolina. In 2025, the network grew further with the addition of a clinic in Hinesville, Georgia.
The Gary Sinise Foundation creates and hosts unique programs for our military community, first responders, and their families. For the past six years, Centerstone has partnered with the Gary Sinise Foundation to provide mental health support for military families at workshops and special events such as the Foundation’s annual healing retreat, Snowball Express, a four-day event at Walt Disney World Resort for the families of our fallen heroes.

Veterans Day is upon us once again. It’s time for us – as a nation and as individuals – to take a few moments out of our lives to remember those who have served in our Armed Forces. As I recently heard someone say, “When people join the military, they give up life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness [on their own timeline]”. I think that is reason enough to thank and remember them. ...

June 14 marks the 244nd birthday of the US Army — initially established in 1775 as the Continental Army. The new force was made up of 22,000 militiamen already gathered outside of Boston plus 5,000 more in New York. On June 15, 1775, Congress named Virginian George Washington as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army.

It was a phrase Suzi Landolphi, expert equine therapist and newest addition to the Boulder Crest Retreat staff, repeated constantly throughout our Saturday morning with her, a tongue-in-cheek way of stating what every woman there felt: that the horses’ movement around us was no accident.
